...or if you work part-time (à la me), it may have already arrived. Heading out for a day with family. Hoping the weekend ahead is fresh, inviting, nourishing...

Final Friday
There's an autumnal nip in the air; the Summer has waned... I'm Dublin bound this weekend - driving through Sunday evening (with kitties) to get an early morning ferry from Holyhead.
Deep breath.
Deep breath.
But back to today (trying not to have daily life be about the next transition). Some editing this afternoon, before heading to Pineapple Studios for my last belly dance class with our lovely little group and our spectacularly graceful teacher Azahara.
Then meeting friends, and on to the V&A for its Louis Armstrong (a la High Society) evening. (The photograph below was taken on the movie set.) I find it utterly impossible to hear his playing without smiling.
Have a lovely weekend, all :-)

Festival Weekend
I have a few moments in between the Last Thing and the Next Thing: just enough time for a crosaire, I reckon, if it's not too headwreckingly difficult.
The Wooden Boat Festival weekend is upon us. Boats are gradually appearing, and the pier is being decked out for the stalls that will tempt us with goodies for the duration (for it is also the Seafood Festival). I'll be helping out a bit, so should hopefully be in the thick of it and able to take some photos along the way.
In the meanwhile, when we were out Sea Safari-ing the other day, the Beacon had some bovine visitors, and looked like this:

And up at the Beacon the other day, I looked like this:

On the road again
A fitting-everything-morning: will be away (physically and from email) for a few days.
Off to meet up with family, and although I'm a leeeeeetle bit sad that my mom won't be joining us for some gentle walks through the wonder of the Burren, she'll be chilling out in her own inimitable way, and I take vicarious pleasure in that :-)
Bound for the West: for fabulous wood-turning-folk and rural retreats and pints in the heart of Galway and days of leisure in Clare.
Speaking of which, I should fill up my high-maintenance travel mug and hit the road. I hear it's a long long way from Clare to here :-)
Have a lovely weekend, all X

weekend beckons
Just about to pop up some popcorn for lunch and get back to scribbling.
And maybe it's because I know family members are over in London for a wedding-tastic weekend, or maybe it's the irrepressible sunshiney-ness of the day, but there's a whole long-weekend feel to today. I reckon one more pot of coffee, and then there'll be a little chime tinging beer o'clock...

Disturbia
The kitties rush to the chaise longue to look out of window: it's a thing they do for the arriving postman, and for the kids who stop to wave at them and praise their cuteness.
But it's not the postman, or passers-by. A man is across the road, looking through the debris outside the builders' yard. The kitties watch, super-alert: Max is hunched over, all intent; Dubh is up on hind legs like a meercat.
The man picks something up and turns: it's a hefty hunk of concrete. He walks - towards my car at first, which gets my full attention - and then turns onto the pavement, past my house, and goes in next door. My new neighbour.
Maybe he doesn't have a copy of War and Peace to use as a yoga block. I expect that's it...
Have a scrumptious weekend, all!

Miserly Images
I finally got through photos from The Miser - they're not great quality, between phone-camera, stage lights, effervescent ever-moving cast and me shivering with cold in the wings. But you get a flavour at least :-)
It's been a burstingly creative week - writing knitting dyeing make-and-doing website designing - all good fun.
And after all that, a pint is in order, despite the manky weather this evening.

Mousecapades
Another sunshiney day: sampled the myriad delights of Covent Garden, with a variety of coffees along the way.
Now back in Balham: Sara's still working (from home, shhhh) so I'm curled up with a glass o'red & Lake Wobegon Days (I know I know, more in my line to be reading piratey stuff), listening to the latest Killers album. Pretty treaty all round. We've been planning possible Things To Do tomorrow - totally spoiled for choice, but there's a strong possibility that things of a Byzantine or Medieval nature will feature. Excellent.
Sara's little kitty keeps appearing with offerings of mice - we suspect as bribes to be let in. My first day here, I couldn't find the back door keys, and couldn't convince the cat to come around to the front of the house (instead she mewed, and hunted for offerings, and mewed). By the time Sara came back and saved the day, there were two and a half mice carcasses outside.
I guess kitty got a little peckish while she was waiting.
Speaking of which, there she is now, mewing at the back window. Better go before another mouse has to make the ultimate sacrifice...
Have a lovely weekend, folks :-)

Tangents and treats
On something of a writing tangent today; a story involving steel pans and smushed trains. But on the lighter side, I tripped over a brilliant scene from A Day at the Races, laugh-out-loud funny, with Harpo trying to get the key plot message across to Chico (you can see it here, but unfortunately Harpo has already launched a frenzied attack on the shrubbery to convey 'Hackenbush'): "Dr Hackenbush... There's a woman... She got a wooden leg? She got a woodpecker? She got a headache??" Too funny...
And here's a treat from Neil Gaiman, The Day the Saucers Came, illustrated by Jouni Koponen, and brought to e-life by the infinite canvas lab.

I went out for a walk as dusk was settling; wandered along the shore, watching oystercatchers picking through the shale for treaty things. Very purdy.
Have a great weekend folks.
