Weekend Round Up

The weekend began with cocktails & delicious Mexican food - chocolate and chilli go so well together!

Yesterday was Nelson Mandela Day at the British Museum: folk worked on a tree of pledges, members of the London Community Gospel Choir held court in the Great Court (and waved hello - I worked with them in the time of Many Moons Ago), and the African garden (courtesy of Kew) was in full splendour.

From there, we were Camden-bound, to soak up the colour (and more specifically, to find a little tribal turquoise bear for a friend, but no luck). When we were all marketed out, we sat at the canal with iced coffees and watched the magic lock creating steps out of water. As the heat left the day, we headed to meet the Laydee of Enigma for a Storytelling Slam in Angel: UK vs USA, five per side, each telling a story for five minutes. It was quite a mix of tales, and if one of them didn't take your fancy, you could gaze on the ceiling, which was made up of light bulbs. Wacky.

Smiling in the face of pestilence

The kidlets over the weekend :-)

[That's right Shona: photos of Jack at last!!!]

The little hamsters inside my beleaguered laptop are lagging; time to clear off the ten thousand high res photos I took over the last few weeks.

But first, there's a dog in the neighbourhood that needs walking. And I may just be the laydee to do it* :-)
____
*Okay, technically he just needs to be led to the shoreline, and he'll take it from there. Which is just as well because I'm feeling kinda flu-ey.

News round up

Well, Tuesday disappeared in a flurry of catch-up sessions with friends. Rehearsal on Wednesday evening was postponed because there was a press launch for the Heritage Festival (brochure available here), and some of the piratey cast went along.

This year, one of the festival highlights is the restoration of the 'Ilen', a boat (locally-built, in the 1920s I think) which spent decades in the Falklands, and has come home to be spruced up. To mark the occasion, our VIP guests were... oh I can't remember their proper (peer/job) titles - basically they owned the Falklands in the 1960s. Anyhoo, they were delightful. The evening got everyone geared up for next weekend (walking, sailing, pirating and craftey things - including those gorgeous lobster pots I fell in love with on Sherkin Island; there's a treat coming up for me).

Yesterday's pub quiz was great craic, and had joint winners, one of whom was The Fastnet Falcons. Go us!!!

And today, being Good Friday, the village seems pretty chilled. Gruelling day so far: lazy breakfast, sauna, coffee... and now there's a whole roasting-of-food système happening in the kitchen, which I have nothing to do with. Love that!

Guess I'll just kick back, watch Murder, She Wrote, maybe do a crosaire...

Have a fabulous Easter, all :-)

Weekend Round Up

Ah, what a social, sunshiney weekend. Caught up with family on their way out to the Sheep's Head (hi guys!!), a friend newly-returned from France, and fisher-folk and sailing-folk, as well as the normal weekend catch-up with friends. Phew. And visitors. And a very special birthday boy who turned five yes five. And Axl the Wonderdog.

So: coffee, pints, movies, some lovely walks, sunshiney pints (in addition to those other ones). Although today wasn't a bank holiday, it so felt like one: glorious sunshine, everyone sitting out in the square, sailing boats a'plenty (and Glenans are back in the water - a lovely sight); folk generally in great form.

As you may have guessed, my cold is receding; life returning to normal.

Piracy tonight: must off and learn some lines :-)

It's the edge of the world as we know it

A day of coffees and catch-up. And I'm also managing to get things marked off a To Do list. I mean, tasks other than: Have coffee. Chat at leisure - no particular rush...

And The Beacon at sunset was lovely, with an edge-of-the-world feel to it. Life doesn't get much prettier...

Have a great weekend, folks.

Shh...

The I'm-digesting-glass sensation is easing. Slowly.

Slept till noon; spent the day curled up, still and quiet.

Speaking of which, I should get back to that right now...
